Yes, We Do!
Welcome to a city of less than 3,400 people with recreational opportunities that are unrivaled by other towns of comparable size OR LARGER! Garnett has over 1,000 acres of parks, including 3 lakes excellent for fishing and boating, complete with RV and wilderness camping, picnic areas and an array of sports facilities available.
Lake Garnett is situated in the center of the North Park. Surrounding the lake are some very unique facilities including a trap shooting range, rifle range, sprint go-kart track, horseshoe pitching area, sand volleyball courts, baseball/softball fields, football stadium, tennis courts, basketball courts, playground equipment and a municipal swimming pool. Constructed in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Lake Garnett has a dam, two shelter houses, restrooms, football stadium and swimming pool within the park which share a distinctive rock design. The road that travels around Lake Garnett was once the “true-road” course for nine grand prix sports car races held between 1959 and 1972 which attracted the top drivers of the nation. The races drew more than 100 drivers and tens of thousands of spectators.
Adjoining the North Park is the Garnett Country Club and Golf Course. The semi-private club prides itself in a very well maintained 9-hole course with additional tee boxes for the second nine. Tee time is anytime and non-members with golf carts are welcome. Cart rental is available. Large bent grass greens make this course of more than 5,600 yards very challenging.
Crystal Lake, situated in Veterans Memorial Park located on the south edge of Garnett, is a quiet, shady area for family picnics. RV camping facilities provide electric and water hook-ups. Crystal Lake, also known as the South Lake, is home of Rainbow Trout Season held annually, October 15 to April 15.
Cedar Valley Reservoir is Garnett’s newest and largest lake facility and is situated approximately 7 miles west of Garnett. Water-skiing, jet skiing, boating, fishing and camping are popular sports at this lake. Kansas state boating and fishing permits are required at all city lakes. *New in 2007, this park facility has a designated ATV trail. ATV permits are required for all riders and available for purchase at Garnett City Hall, 131 W. 5th Avenue. RV and wilderness camping permits are required and can be obtained through the Garnett Law Enforcement Dispatch Center, 131 W. 5th, Garnett, telephone: (785) 448-6823.
Garnett’s newest recreational facility is the Garnett Sports Complex, a baseball/softball stadium. Its entrance is located on US 59 just north of K-31 Highway (Park Road) by Kid’s Creations. This complex includes one baseball and two softball fields, concession stand, restrooms and shade area.
