The recipe for success may be measured in desire and if so, the owners of Maloan’s Bar & Grille are destined to succeed. Filling a void and saving a building from razing, Maloan’s restaurant and bar occupies one of the largest and oldest buildings in Garnett and is situated on the northwest corner of the town square at Fourth Avenue and Oak Street. Patrons can admire a picturesque view overlooking the Anderson County Courthouse, Donna Harris Memorial Park and town square. Built in 1883, the building was originally a bank.
A fine dining experience awaits visitors to the restaurant which occupies the first floor. Maloan’s menu features grilled steaks, seafood, pasta, chicken and pork. Complete with table linens, flowers and candles, the restaurant is open for lunch Wednesday through Friday 11am – 1:30 pm, and dinner (upstairs) Wednesday and Thursday 5 – 8 pm. On Friday and Saturday evenings, dinner is served 5 to 8 pm on the main level and 5 to 9 upstairs. A wonderfully displayed buffet brunch is served on Sundays 10 am - 1pm. Maloan’s also provides off-site catering upon request.
Kevin and Nancy Maloan are owners and operators of Maloan’s Bar & Grille. Kevin is a native of Garnett and Nancy has several years of experience in restaurant management and catering.
A spacious bar is located upstairs with high ceilings, oak tables and chairs, and ceiling fans. The interior walls have been exposed allowing the building’s original brick to show through. Photos of Garnett’s yesteryears are hung tastefully on a wall. Because of the large windows which stand 8 to 13 feet high, natural lighting changes the ambiance throughout the evening hours. Open evenings Wednesday through Saturday, the second story bar provides a trendy yet historic atmosphere. Maloan’s Bar & Grille is open for special occasions and sporting events, such as televised Kansas City Chiefs football games and University of Kansas basketball games. The bar has a full liquor bar, and a variety of sandwiches, salads and hors d'oeuvres are served.
From summer through the fall, Maloan’s has a second story outdoor dining area that adds yet another unique eating experience. During the holiday season, visitors to the second floor enjoy a splendid view of downtown Garnett festively decorated in Christmas lights.
